Finally on the pedals

Finalmente sui pedali - Passau Wien by Bike
Finalmente sui pedali
Today is raining, but we already knew this before leaving Italy ... hopefully an improvement for tomorrow !!! Let's start going down the pension's hill, then we arrive on the bridge over the Inn and we head towards the right bank river, suggested by Alberto Fiorin as the best at this point. It starts with a small and narrow piece of dirt road then we get immediately on the bike lane with, on our left, the Danube: finally our adventure has begun !!! After a few kilometers we pass the german state border and we ride along the path that runs near the river and near the little busy road. We pass trought small villages, ups and downs, and then we meet the first of many hydroelectric power stations built on the Donau. We take some ritual photos and we arrive at Engelhartszell city, very pretty place, where we have lunch with somethings bought in a small SPAR supermarket: small note, these supermarkets are very common here along the Donau, mind this for yours supplies. After eating, as recommended by our guide, we cross the river through a characteristic boat for cyclists (and pedestrians), which takes us to, obviously the other side. There is a small bar on the boat, with hot drinks offered kindly by the operator's wife. Nice people!

Heavy rain

Rain and clouds in Schlögen - Passau Wien by Bike
Rain and clouds in Schlögen
The weather does not seem to improve, we see many low and dark clouds ... hope for the best !!! Finally we ride in a nature reserve that will take us near Schlögen, perhaps one of the most beautiful places on the Danube. Along the way, only our bikes, rain and lots of greenery: we also meet what in the distance seems to be a deer ... but it's too far away and then, as soon as it sees us, it escapes! It starts to rain hard, my mood suffers, instead Tiziana is happy ... she likes the rain ... (we can talk about it this night, all wet ...). We ride in these conditions in an almost unreal atmosphere, just us, the river and some other cyclist (which as usual overcomes us: P) After an hour we arrive near the famous Schlögen Bend: here the guide suggests to ferry on the other bank, using the common small ferry! On the other side there is only a big hotel, so we decide to go on for a few more kilometers to find something nicer and less expensive. We arrive at Inzell, a beautiful (and very isolated) village, in the area only a dozen houses of which half are gasthaus. I go inside and ask for a room: i meet a very helpful lady who looks at me and speaks only in German ... I don't understand ANYTHING !!! Fortunately we meet Giorgio and Ceciclia, two Emilian guy who, like us, go to Vienna: Giorgio speaks a little bit of German ... finally we have two rooms in an outbuilding, since we like her, practically two mini apartments ... beautiful !! Finally a hot shower, a little rest and then we take dinner: I eat the second wiener schnizel of the holiday drinking a delicious Weissbier. Well ... it's time to go to bed, thank goodness it stopped raining !!
